Voltpost’s New EV Chargers Aim to Cut Installation Costs by 70% to Address Apartment Building Charging Challenges

New Charger Designs Focus on Existing Building Spaces

Electric vehicle charging startup Voltpost launched two new Level 2 chargers in New York on August 26: the Voltpost Air Ceiling Mount and the Voltpost Air Surface Mount. Designed for existing structures such as parking garages and apartment buildings, the new products can be installed using existing ceilings, walls, or parking space pillars without extensive trenching or renovations. The company states that installation time can be reduced to just a few hours.

The Ceiling Mount charger features Voltpost’s proprietary AutoCoil cable system, which automatically lowers the cable during charging and retracts it afterward, preventing cables from lying on the floor and reducing safety hazards. The Surface Mount charger is suitable for spaces where ceiling installation is not feasible and also incorporates a retractable cable design. Both models offer single or dual charging ports and support both J1772 and NACS (Tesla) connector standards.

Charging Performance and Payment Integration

The Voltpost Air chargers deliver a maximum output of 9.6 kilowatts (kW), adding approximately 25 to 30 miles of range per hour of charging. The chargers connect via AT&T’s cellular network, enabling remote monitoring and management. They also integrate multiple payment options, including the Voltpost app, credit cards, and RFID cards.

Charger locations will be synchronized with platforms such as Google Maps, Apple Maps, Waze, Uber, and Tesla, allowing users to easily locate them. Voltpost CEO and cofounder Jeff Prosserman noted that the new products comply with Build America, Buy America regulations and feature a modular design for simplified maintenance and part replacement.

Targeting the Apartment Building Charging Challenge

Voltpost claims the new chargers can reduce installation costs by up to 70%, primarily by minimizing construction complexity and leveraging existing structures. The company emphasizes that actual savings will depend on the site’s electrical infrastructure, and apartment buildings must ensure adequate power capacity and obtain necessary permits.

Prosserman stated, "The launch of the Voltpost Air product line represents a natural evolution of our company’s vision. These products enable us to deploy charging infrastructure in existing buildings at lower costs, providing more users with open and reliable charging access."

Voltpost has not yet disclosed pricing, delivery timelines, or initial installation locations for the new chargers. The company previously gained recognition for converting lampposts into EV chargers, and the ceiling and wall-mounted designs further expand its applications in existing building spaces.
