Background and Objectives of the Partnership
Generational, a UK-based electric vehicle battery diagnostics company, and Maverick Diagnostics, a provider of automotive repair diagnostic services, announced a partnership on July 23, 2026, aimed at expanding electric vehicle battery health testing services to thousands of independent workshops across the UK. The core objective of this collaboration is to address the lack of transparency in battery condition information within the used EV market, offering standardized battery health assessment tools for vehicle owners, dealers, and repair businesses. As the number of electric vehicles in the UK continues to grow, battery health has become a critical factor influencing vehicle residual value and safety.
Under the agreement signed by both parties, Generational will supply its 'Generational testing kits,' handle workshop orders, and generate battery health reports and customer-facing certificates through its 'State of Health' software platform. Maverick Diagnostics will be responsible for technology promotion and educational training to help workshops quickly adopt the testing service. Maverick Diagnostics currently serves approximately 6,000 automotive repair shops in the UK. This partnership will enable Generational’s technology to directly reach the customer base of these businesses, significantly increasing the adoption rate of EV battery health testing.
Testing Technology and Process
Generational’s battery health testing technology is designed with simplicity and accuracy at its core. Repair technicians only need to connect a compact OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) device to the vehicle’s OBD port to automatically assess key battery data through Generational’s software platform, including battery capacity, internal resistance, and State of Health. The entire testing process takes just a few minutes and generates a detailed battery health report for reference by vehicle owners and repair shops.
Generational’s recent 'Battery Performance Index' report revealed that, based on over 8,000 EV battery assessments in the UK, the average State of Health reached 95.15%. However, the report also noted that as vehicles age, individual differences in battery health become significantly more pronounced. For instance, within the same vehicle model and usage period, some vehicles may maintain a battery health state above 90%, while others may drop below 80%. These variations are primarily influenced by charging habits, driving patterns, environmental temperatures, and maintenance history, underscoring the necessity of vehicle-specific testing.
