One of the Largest Highway EV Charging Networks in the U.S. Takes Shape
Pilot Travel Centers, General Motors (GM), and EVgo jointly announced that, as of August 7, 2026, they have completed the installation of over 300 electric vehicle fast-charging stations across 40 U.S. states, providing a total of 1,300 DC fast-charging stalls. Since the partnership launched in 2022, the initiative has surpassed the halfway mark of its original goal, with plans to ultimately deploy 2,000 fast-charging stalls at up to 500 locations nationwide, forming one of the largest highway EV charging networks in North America.
Pilot Travel Centers operates more than 900 locations across 43 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces, serving an average of 1.2 million customers daily. These locations offer not only traditional fueling services but also amenities such as dining, rest areas, and pet care, providing long-distance drivers with comprehensive rest and refueling options. With the expansion of the EV charging network, Pilot’s services now extend to electric vehicle drivers, making long-distance travel more convenient.
User Satisfaction Score Reaches 9.41 Out of 10, Charging Experience Highly Praised
According to the latest data from the EV charging review platform Plugshare, the charging network developed by Pilot and EVgo has earned a score of 9.41 out of 10, reflecting high user satisfaction with the reliability and convenience of the charging infrastructure. This achievement underscores the partners’ commitment to strategic site selection, equipment maintenance, and service quality, offering EV drivers a more reassuring charging experience.
William Hotchkiss, Head of Public Charging at GM, stated, "Surpassing 300 charging stations is a significant milestone for EV drivers, ensuring they have access to simpler, more convenient, and dependable charging on the road. This is not just growth in numbers but a tangible advancement in EV infrastructure." He emphasized that as the number of charging stations continues to increase, the barriers to long-distance EV travel will further diminish, encouraging more drivers to choose electric vehicles for their journeys.
Long-Distance EV Travel Becomes More Accessible as Charging Network Expands
Scott Hundley, Director of Light-Duty EV and Infrastructure at Pilot, noted that the expansion of the charging network has made long-distance EV travel more accessible and reliable. He said, "Pilot is committed to building a coast-to-coast charging network, ensuring EV drivers can easily find reliable charging facilities no matter where they are. This is not just an investment in technology but a promise to enhance the driving experience."
The 1,300 DC fast-charging stalls currently in operation are primarily located at Pilot Travel Centers along highways, providing drivers with fast and convenient charging services. These charging stations support multiple vehicle models and integrate with the travel centers’ amenities, allowing drivers to enjoy a comfortable rest environment while charging. As the network continues to expand, Pilot expects to further reduce charging wait times and improve overall travel efficiency.
The progress of this collaboration not only reflects the rapid growth of EV charging infrastructure in the U.S. but also injects new momentum into the development of the electric vehicle industry. With the continued increase in charging stations, EV adoption is expected to rise, offering drivers a more seamless travel experience.
