Unifying Multiple Charging Networks into a Single Platform
General Motors (GM) announced the launch of Energy Pass during its Empower event in mid-June 2026, integrating major US charging networks, including Tesla Supercharger, IONNA, Electrify America, and ChargePoint, with EVgo set to join soon. The platform allows users to manage approximately 70% of all US DC fast-charging stations through official apps such as MyChevrolet, MyCadillac, or MyGMC, eliminating the need to download multiple applications or create separate accounts for different networks.
Energy Pass supports single sign-on and unified payment methods, providing real-time maps of charging stations, pricing, connector types (such as CCS or NACS), and adapter requirements. The platform is free to join, with charges applied only during actual charging sessions. It also offers features like charging history, cost breakdowns, and digital receipts. Additionally, users receive a 10% discount at IONNA charging stations, with potential expansions to other networks in the future.
General Motors stated that Energy Pass will significantly reduce the complexity of EV charging, particularly for long-distance travelers, by eliminating the hassle of switching between multiple apps. The launch marks a major advancement in GM’s efforts to integrate electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Plug and Charge Goes Live, Enabling Automatic Authentication and Payment
Alongside Energy Pass, GM introduced Plug and Charge, which is now available at IONNA Rechargeries and ChargePoint stations. Users simply plug in their vehicle, and the system automatically identifies the car, verifies the account, and initiates charging, with payments processed without any manual intervention. GM plans to enable Plug and Charge at Tesla Superchargers for NACS-compatible vehicles in the second half of 2026 through an over-the-air (OTA) update.
