U.S. Charging Network Expands as EVgo Adds 500 New Fast Charging Stalls

On August 9, 2026, U.S. electric vehicle charging provider EVgo announced a partnership with commercial real estate company Brixmor Property Group to install over 500 new fast charging stalls at 90 shopping centers across the country. Once completed, one-quarter of Brixmor’s shopping centers will offer EVgo charging services, further strengthening the deployment of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

EVgo currently operates more than 1,200 DC fast charging stations in 47 states. The 500 new charging stalls will be distributed across Brixmor shopping centers in Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Each new site will feature up to 12 high-power chargers to meet the growing demand for electric vehicle charging.

Partnership Dates Back to 2016, California Pilot Site Laid the Foundation

EVgo and Brixmor’s collaboration began in 2016 with their first charging station installed at a shopping center in Pleasanton, California. This expansion not only continues their long-term partnership but also highlights the importance of shopping centers as key hubs for electric vehicle charging. Scott Levitan, Executive Vice President of Growth at EVgo, stated that drivers want charging infrastructure that seamlessly integrates into their daily routines, and shopping centers are an ideal location for this, allowing consumers to charge while shopping or relaxing.

Levitan emphasized that this partnership with Brixmor will effectively support the growing demand for public charging, particularly in convenient, everyday locations. He noted that as electric vehicle adoption increases, consumer demand for charging infrastructure is no longer limited to highways or residential areas. Shopping centers, with their high foot traffic and extended dwell times, have become a priority for charging providers.

Brixmor Emphasizes Convenience and Community Needs

Laura McLaughlin, Vice President of Specialty Leasing at Brixmor Property Group, stated that the company is committed to meeting the evolving needs of customers and communities. Expanding charging infrastructure not only enhances the convenience of shopping centers but also aligns with consumer demand for electric vehicle charging. She added that the addition of charging facilities will reinforce the role of shopping centers as vibrant community hubs, providing customers with more comprehensive services.

McLaughlin further explained that as the electric vehicle market continues to grow, charging infrastructure has become an essential amenity for commercial real estate. Brixmor’s collaboration with EVgo not only expands the coverage of charging networks but also sets an example for other commercial real estate operators, demonstrating that charging facilities have become a key factor in attracting customers.

Charging Network Expansion to Boost Electric Vehicle Adoption

This collaboration between EVgo and Brixmor underscores the strategic role of shopping centers in the electric vehicle charging ecosystem. With the increase in charging stalls, the partnership is expected to help alleviate congestion during peak charging times and improve the overall experience for electric vehicle users. While EVgo has not disclosed the specific timeline or funding sources for this expansion, industry observers widely believe the move will further accelerate the widespread adoption of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

EVgo’s charging network already spans 47 states, and the addition of 500 new fast charging stalls will further enhance charging convenience. As the electric vehicle market continues to grow, the availability and accessibility of charging infrastructure will become a critical factor in consumers’ vehicle purchasing decisions. The partnership between EVgo and Brixmor not only demonstrates both companies’ long-term commitment to electric vehicle charging infrastructure but also provides a replicable model for other industry players.
