Sinopec and BYD Collaborate to Build the World’s Largest Ultra-Fast Charging Network
Sinopec and BYD have recently signed a comprehensive framework agreement to deploy BYD’s second-generation Flash Charging systems across over 30,000 Sinopec fuel stations. This partnership extends beyond charging infrastructure deployment to include supply chain integration and shared data platforms, aiming to establish a smart energy ecosystem. BYD plans to expand its total number of charging stations to 20,000 by the end of 2026, and this collaboration is expected to accelerate that goal.
BYD’s second-generation Flash Charging system utilizes liquid-cooling technology and delivers a peak output of 1,500kW, making it the highest-power commercial charging unit currently available globally. The system allows compatible vehicles to achieve a near-full charge in under 10 minutes, significantly reducing refueling time. BYD currently operates over 6,100 charging stations in China, and its partnership with Sinopec will further expand the coverage of its charging network.
Asia Accelerates Charging Infrastructure Development
Collaborations between traditional energy companies and electric vehicle manufacturers are rapidly expanding across Asia. In the Philippines, ACMobility, a subsidiary of the Ayala Group, has partnered with Shell Pilipinas to install over 2,500 charging points nationwide. Among these, 50 key Shell service stations are equipped with 60 to 120kW direct-current fast chargers, focusing on enhancing long-distance transport refueling capabilities along the Philippine EV Spine. Meanwhile, Phoenix Petroleum has teamed up with V-Green to deploy chargers across its retail network, supporting the expansion of electric taxi fleets.
Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company, PLN, has established over 1,100 charging stations through its SPKLU network and continues to collaborate with EV companies to scale up further. In Malaysia, the national utility company Tenaga Nasional Berhad has partnered with domestic automaker Perodua to integrate charging infrastructure and solar power systems into existing retail outlets. Yinson GreenTech is developing dedicated fast-charging rest stops along the North-South Expressway, offering electric vehicle drivers more convenient refueling options.
