Flagship Charging Station Debuts in Detroit, Supporting CCS and NACS Standards

EV charging network operator EVgo and General Motors (GM) continue to expand their flagship charging station network, with the latest station officially opening on August 12 in Warren, Michigan, at a Meijer shopping center. The station features 12 high-powered charging stalls, delivering up to 350 kilowatts, and supports both CCS and NACS (Tesla standard) charging protocols. Equipped with overhead canopies and pull-through stalls, the station allows drivers to shop or dine while their vehicles charge.

EVgo President Dennis Kish stated that the EV-driver customer experience is the company’s top priority. Through collaboration with GM, EVgo is seamlessly integrating charging infrastructure into drivers’ daily lives. Kish emphasized that flagship stations not only provide high-efficiency charging but also combine surrounding commercial amenities to make the charging process more convenient.

Nationwide Expansion Accelerates, Over 100 Flagship Stations Planned by Year-End

EVgo currently operates 1,200 charging stations with 2,400 stalls across 32 U.S. states, including more than 40 flagship stations. Each flagship site can accommodate up to 20 stalls, with individual stalls offering up to 350 kilowatts of power. Unlike standard charging stations, flagship locations prioritize enhanced facilities and user convenience. EVgo plans to expand its flagship network to over 100 stations by the end of 2026, focusing on six states: California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, and Texas, to meet the growing demand in the electric vehicle market.

Additionally, EVgo, GM, and Pilot Company have established a fast-charging network with over 1,300 stalls at 300 locations across 40 states. EVgo has also recently partnered with commercial real estate developer Brixmore to deploy at least 500 new DC fast-charging stalls at shopping centers nationwide. Starting this fall, EVgo will begin installing Tesla Superchargers capable of delivering up to 500 kilowatts, further improving charging efficiency.

High-Power Charging Emerges as Industry Trend, Flagship Stations Lead Market Transformation

While flagship stations currently represent a small fraction of EVgo’s total stalls, their high-spec design and convenience are setting industry trends. EVgo noted that although most of its existing stations also use 350-kilowatt chargers, they typically lack features such as overhead canopies or pull-through stalls. The introduction of flagship stations is expected to significantly enhance the charging experience for drivers. As the electric vehicle market continues to grow, EVgo is actively expanding its high-power charging infrastructure through partnerships with GM, Pilot Company, and Brixmore to meet future demand.

Industry observers note that flagship charging stations are not only strengthening the competitiveness of electric vehicle charging networks but also posing challenges to traditional gas stations. As more flagship stations are deployed, EV drivers will benefit from faster and more convenient charging services, further accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles.
