First 350kW Trailer-Friendly Fast-Charging Station Opens in the US

EV charging network operator EVgo and General Motors (GM) officially opened the first 350kW ultra-fast charging station in the US designed specifically for trailers on August 12. Located next to a Meijer shopping center in Warren, Michigan, the station features 12 high-power charging stalls equipped with both CCS and NACS connectors. Its pull-through design allows drivers towing trailers to charge without unhitching.

The station is situated directly across from GM’s Global Technical Center and includes an overhead canopy to shelter the chargers. The charging stalls are spaced to accommodate large vehicles. EVgo states that under ideal conditions, the 350kW chargers can fully recharge a vehicle in as little as 15 minutes, though actual charging speeds may vary depending on the vehicle model, battery condition, ambient temperature, and initial state of charge.

Flagship Stations Focus on User Experience

Dennis Kish, president of EVgo, said, "As American consumers choose electric vehicles, the driver experience becomes paramount. Our collaboration with GM is about seamlessly integrating charging infrastructure into drivers’ daily lives." The Warren station meets EVgo’s flagship site criteria, located near shopping, dining, and other amenities, with enhanced lighting and layout to improve user experience.

The opening of the Warren station brings EVgo’s total flagship charging stalls in the US to over 40. EVgo plans to expand to more than 100 flagship stalls by the end of 2026, with additional sites planned in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, and Texas. These flagship stations will average 20 charging stalls each, aiming to meet the growing demand for EV charging.

Charging Network Expansion Aligns with Market Growth

EVgo and GM announced their flagship program in 2024, with a goal of deploying 400 fast-charging stalls in major US metropolitan areas. To date, EVgo has installed nearly 2,400 charging stalls across 32 states with GM’s support. This includes 1,300 charging stalls at 300 Pilot and Flying J locations in 40 states, developed in partnership with Pilot Company.

Michigan’s EV market has seen rapid growth in recent years. According to Experian vehicle registration data, the number of electric vehicles in the state increased sixfold between 2021 and 2025, reflecting rising demand for charging infrastructure. The Warren station not only addresses local needs but also provides trailer owners with a more convenient long-distance charging option, further promoting EV adoption.

EVgo emphasizes that its flagship charging stations are designed to accommodate diverse user needs, including trailer drivers, long-distance travelers, and daily commuters. As the EV market continues to expand, the availability of charging networks will be a key factor influencing consumer choices. EVgo plans to continue working with partners to expand high-power charging stations across the US to meet regional demand.
