New Detroit Station Launches with CCS and NACS Compatibility

Electric vehicle charging operator EVgo recently opened a flagship charging station at the Meijer shopping center in Warren, Michigan, marking another addition to its high-specification charging network. The station features 12 high-powered chargers supporting both CCS and NACS (Tesla’s North American Charging Standard), with a maximum output of 350 kilowatts (kW) per stall. The site includes pull-through parking spaces and an overhead canopy, and is adjacent to shopping centers, restaurants, and other amenities, providing a convenient charging environment.

Dennis Kish, President of EVgo, stated that the electric vehicle driver experience is critical to consumer adoption, and the company is committed to integrating charging services seamlessly into drivers’ daily lives through high-specification stations. He emphasized that flagship stations prioritize not only charging speed but also comfort and convenience, with features such as canopies and pull-through stalls enhancing the overall experience.

Flagship Stations to Reach Over 100 by Year-End

As of now, EVgo has over 40 flagship charging stalls operational across the United States, with plans to expand the number to more than 100 by the end of 2026. Each flagship station can accommodate up to 20 charging stalls, all delivering up to 350 kW, significantly exceeding standard charging station capabilities. EVgo has indicated it will prioritize deploying these high-specification stations in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, and Texas.

While flagship stations remain a minority, EVgo operates 1,200 charging stations with a total of 2,400 stalls across 32 states. The company’s collaboration with General Motors (GM) has driven rapid network expansion. Additionally, EVgo, GM, and Pilot Company have jointly established a fast-charging network with 300 locations and 1,300 stalls across 40 states, further improving electric vehicle charging accessibility.

Partnerships Expand as 500 kW Ultra-Fast Chargers Prepare for Deployment

EVgo recently signed an agreement with commercial real estate developer Brixmore to deploy at least 500 new DC fast chargers (DCFC) at shopping centers nationwide, enhancing the integration of charging stations with daily life. Furthermore, EVgo will begin deploying Tesla Superchargers capable of delivering 500 kW starting this fall, further boosting charging efficiency.

As the number of flagship stations grows, EVgo continues to expand its charging network. While the company has operational flagship stations in multiple locations across the U.S., specific site details and usage data have not been publicly disclosed. Industry analysts note that as the electric vehicle market expands, demand for high-power charging stations will continue to rise, and EVgo’s strategic deployment will help meet future market needs while solidifying its leadership in the U.S. electric vehicle charging sector.
