Charging Irregularities Reported in Certain BMW BEVs Draw Attention — EVOASIS Completes Full Investigation: Equipment Operating Normally, No Evidence of Malfunction Found

Based on currently available objective equipment-side data, all affected charging units were operating normally, with no evidence of hardware malfunction or systemic abnormality. The findings do not support the conclusion that the incident was caused by EVOASIS charging equipment failure.


VPC-Certified Equipment Covering Safety, EMC, and Communication Compatibility

EVOASIS stated that the charging equipment involved in the incident has obtained the “Voluntary Product Certification (VPC)” issued by Taiwan’s Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI), Ministry of Economic Affairs.

According to BSMI regulations, DC charging equipment certification includes compliance with multiple national standards, such as:

  • CNS 15511-1 (General requirements for conductive charging systems)

  • CNS 15511-21-2 (Electromagnetic compatibility)

  • CNS 15511-23 (Safety requirements for DC charging equipment)

  • CNS 15511-24 (Communication protocol compatibility for DC charging equipment)

  • Safety requirements for charging connectors and cables

EVOASIS emphasized that obtaining such certification indicates the product model has passed standardized safety and communication compliance testing under Taiwan’s regulatory framework. However, the company further clarified that it also conducted an independent review of real-world operational data for this specific incident, rather than relying solely on certification status.


No Abnormal Backend Records; Other Vehicles Successfully Charged on the Same Units

According to EVOASIS’ investigation, the relevant charging equipment remained fully operational during the incident period. No backend alerts or system logs indicated hardware failure or systemic malfunction.

More importantly, cross-checking of charging session records before and after the incident showed that other vehicles from different brands successfully initiated and completed charging sessions on the same equipment.

EVOASIS noted that if a charging unit were experiencing persistent hardware failure, output instability, or systemic issues, such conditions would typically be reflected in system alerts, operational logs, or repeated charging failures across multiple vehicles. However, no such patterns were observed in this case.

Based on equipment status, backend logs, transaction records, and actual charging outcomes, EVOASIS stated that there is currently no objective evidence supporting the claim that the incident was caused by a malfunction of EVOASIS charging equipment.


Similar Cases Not Concentrated Within a Single Operator; Root Cause Requires Cross-Verification of Vehicle and Charger Data

EVOASIS further stated that, based on publicly available information and user reports, similar charging or drivetrain-related irregularities involving BMW iX, iX1, and iX2 vehicles have not been limited to EVOASIS charging stations. Comparable cases have also been reported across different charging networks and operating environments.

These cases appear to be distributed across multiple locations and operators, and therefore there is currently no objective basis to attribute the issue to a single charging provider or specific charging site.

At the same time, EVOASIS emphasized that it does not conclude that the issue originates from the vehicle side.

DC fast charging involves a bidirectional communication and control process between the vehicle and the charging station, rather than a one-way power delivery system. Taiwan’s national standards for DC charging equipment also include communication compatibility requirements between vehicles and chargers.

Therefore, determining the root cause of a single incident requires comprehensive technical data, including vehicle fault codes, control module information, software versions, and full charger communication logs, in order to perform proper cross-analysis between both sides.


EVOASIS: Based on Current Objective Evidence, Charging Equipment Malfunction Can Be Ruled Out

EVOASIS stated that it has conducted a multi-dimensional review of the incident, including product certification status, equipment operating conditions, backend alerts, charging session logs, and actual charging outcomes.

Based on all currently available objective equipment-side evidence, EVOASIS can rule out the possibility that the incident was caused by a malfunction of the charging equipment itself.

The company emphasized that, in the absence of complete vehicle-side fault codes and full technical datasets from both the vehicle and charging system, any attribution of the incident solely to charging equipment remains unsupported by sufficient technical evidence.

EVOASIS has preserved all relevant system logs and technical records. Should vehicle owners or automakers require further technical clarification, the company will continue to provide necessary data and cooperate with investigations, aiming to jointly identify the root cause through data cross-verification.


Commitment to User Safety and Continuous Improvement of Charging Network Transparency

As of May 2026, EVOASIS operates 153 DC fast-charging stations and a total of 373 AC/DC charging sites across Taiwan, with more than 1,700 charging connectors, making it one of the largest public charging networks in the country.

As public fast-charging usage continues to grow, EVOASIS stated that the safety, stability, and traceability of charging systems are becoming increasingly important. The company will continue enhancing its monitoring systems, backend alert mechanisms, charging data retention, and technical analytics capabilities to improve incident diagnosis accuracy.

EVOASIS stated:

“In any charging-related incident, user safety is always our top priority, and we rely on verifiable technical data to clarify the facts. In this case, we do not pre-assign responsibility or attribute the issue to any automaker. However, given that all equipment checks have shown normal operation, we have a responsibility to present the facts based on objective evidence. We look forward to working with both vehicle owners and manufacturers to complete further technical cross-analysis so that the true cause can be identified through data.”
