Charging Hubs Cover Major North and South Luzon Corridors

On August 11, 2026, Philippine mobility service provider ACMobility announced a comprehensive expansion of its electric vehicle charging infrastructure through partnerships with energy company Basic Energy Corporation and ride-hailing platform Grab Philippines. The initiative prioritizes the electrification of public transport and will establish charging stations across Metro Manila and surrounding major traffic corridors. It will also introduce a digital fleet management system to assist bus, taxi, and ride-hailing operators in transitioning to electric vehicles with zero upfront costs, granting them full ownership after five years.

The Iwas Taas Pamasahe Transport Solutions Program, jointly launched by ACMobility and Basic Energy, aims to lower the barriers to transition for public transport operators through the deployment of charging infrastructure. Planned charging sites include the northbound Total station on the South Luzon Expressway, EDSA, Newport City in Pasay, E. Rodriguez and Visayas Avenue in Quezon City, as well as locations in Mandaluyong, Cainta, Marikina’s Sumulong Highway, and other areas. Existing charging stations include the EcoOil site in Alabang and the Total station on the North Luzon Expressway.

The new charging hubs will be equipped with high-speed direct current fast chargers and alternating current units to meet the diverse needs of public transport and private vehicles. Carla Buencamino, Head of Mobility Infrastructure at ACMobility, stated that the key to electrification lies in the transition of public transport, not just private vehicles. She emphasized that the collaboration will establish a charging network spanning North and South Luzon, supporting public transport fleets and realizing the vision of comprehensive electric mobility services in the Philippines.

Oscar De Venecia Jr., President and CEO of Basic Energy, noted that the program is central to the company’s mission of providing sustainable and accessible transport solutions. By integrating charging infrastructure into Total and EcoOil’s fuel station networks, the initiative lays the groundwork for the widespread adoption of electric public transport. The northbound Total station on the South Luzon Expressway will be one of the first charging centers to launch, expected to serve buses, taxis, and private vehicles simultaneously.

Digital Management System Streamlines Charging Process as Grab Fleet Leads Adoption

In the commercial fleet sector, ACMobility has partnered with Grab Philippines to support the charging needs of GrabCar Electric and GrabTaxi Electric fleets through the ChargeFleet system. Integrated into the Evro mobile application, the system enables real-time automated settlement of charging fees without the need for physical cards, allowing drivers to complete charging during shift changes and avoid vehicle downtime. ACMobility stated that the system will serve as a pilot for the electrification of ride-hailing and taxi operators, demonstrating the viability and efficiency of commercial fleet electrification.

CJ Lacsican, Head of Grab Financial Group in the Philippines, highlighted that electrification is not only a commitment to sustainability but also a tangible support for drivers’ livelihoods. He pointed out that volatile fuel prices significantly impact the income of taxi and ride-hailing drivers, while the lower operating costs of electric vehicles help enhance their economic resilience. Through the partnership with ACMobility, Grab can provide drivers with reliable charging solutions and lower the barriers to electric vehicle adoption.

Lacsican further explained that the introduction of the ChargeFleet system will help address practical challenges in commercial fleet electrification, including charging convenience and cost management. ACMobility emphasized that the system’s integration will make electric fleet management more efficient and serve as a model for broader electrification efforts. Buencamino stated that ACMobility aims to be a driver of the electric mobility ecosystem by integrating charging infrastructure with digital management tools to fully support the electrification of both public and private transport sectors.

The collaboration not only accelerates the electrification of public transport in the Philippines but also offers a more economically viable operating model for taxi and ride-hailing operators. As the charging network continues to expand, more transport operators are expected to join the electrification movement, further advancing sustainable development in the country’s transportation sector.
