Commercial EV Charging Infrastructure Becomes Essential to Business Operations
On August 12, BTC Power, a US electric vehicle charging equipment manufacturer, released the findings of its "2026 State of EV Charging Survey." The survey polled over 200 commercial decision-makers across six sectors in the US: retail, fleet, hospitality, corporate campuses, fueling and convenience stores, and multi-family housing. The results show that 94% of respondents now view EV charging infrastructure as a necessary component of their business operations and competitiveness, while 97% plan to increase investment in 2026, indicating that the commercial EV charging market has matured beyond expectations.
SJ Oh, Chief Revenue Officer of BTC Power, stated that performance and reliability have replaced cost as the primary reasons for charging network operators to switch vendors. He noted that many decision-makers have experienced installations that failed to meet expectations, leading them to recognize that the hidden costs of unreliable hardware—such as downtime, maintenance, lost revenue, and poor driver experiences—far exceed the initial savings. The survey found that 60% of decision-makers prefer partners offering full-service solutions, including planning, installation, and ongoing support, while only 17% favor hardware-only providers.
Sustainability and Policy Drive Diverse Charging Needs
The survey further revealed that environmental sustainability and customer demand have become the top drivers for 46% of respondents deploying charging infrastructure, surpassing revenue growth (36%) and fleet electrification (32%). Among corporate campuses, 55% of respondents cited ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) progress as the most significant tangible benefit of their charging programs, the highest proportion across all facility types. SJ Oh emphasized that while sustainability was the primary motivation for companies to adopt charging infrastructure a few years ago, it has now evolved into one of several indispensable needs.
