Westinghouse stated that the number of shares and the price range for the IPO have not yet been determined and will depend on market conditions. Currently, the company is owned by Canadian uranium miner Cameco, which holds a 49% stake, and Brookfield Renewable Partners, which holds 51%.

Westinghouse built the world’s first commercial Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) in 1957, establishing its leadership in nuclear technology. As of now, approximately 57% of the 417 operational nuclear reactors worldwide use Westinghouse technology. The company’s latest AP1000 reactor technology is in high demand globally. Cameco’s latest financial report indicates that Westinghouse has accumulated 91 potential deployment opportunities for the AP1000, with a total installed capacity of 105 GW, spanning countries including the United States, Poland, Bulgaria, and Ukraine.

Cameco emphasized that these 91 potential orders are ranked by project maturity, with some already receiving government support or entering the engineering design phase. However, not all have reached final investment decisions. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has expressed support for deploying up to 10 AP1000 reactors in the United States, reflecting the U.S. government’s commitment to nuclear energy development.

Nuclear Construction Costs and Timelines Expected to Decline Significantly

Westinghouse estimates that the current timeline for constructing a new nuclear unit—from the first concrete pour to commercial operation—is approximately 66 months. With the accumulation of standardized project experience, construction time could be reduced by 20% to 30% in the future. Regarding construction costs, the current overnight cost for a dual-unit nuclear plant ranges from $20 billion to $26 billion, with potential future reductions to $14 billion to $17 billion, further enhancing the economic competitiveness of nuclear power.

Westinghouse noted that improvements in cost and timeline will depend on the accumulation of standardized construction experience and the actual implementation of market demand. The company stressed that only a portion of the 91 potential orders have entered the substantive construction phase, with most still in the planning or evaluation stages. Future developments will hinge on policy changes and market dynamics in various countries.
