Tesla’s V2L Adapter Officially Launches, Exclusive to Model Y Premium Models
On August 15, Tesla officially introduced a vehicle-to-load (V2L) adapter in the US, compatible with all Model Y Premium models and priced at $80. This accessory, used in conjunction with Tesla’s third-generation Mobile Connector, provides a maximum output of 2.4 kW, allowing owners to power a range of electrical devices during outdoor activities or emergencies. Tesla emphasized that only the official V2L adapter is covered under the vehicle warranty, and damage caused by third-party products will not be covered.
The newly released V2L adapter expands its availability beyond the previous limitation to the Model Y Performance model. However, Tesla has not made the adapter available for the Model Y Standard or Model 3 vehicles. Last year, Tesla’s official X account announced that the Model Y Performance model supports V2L functionality with a 120V 20A AC output, compatible with the Tesla Outlet Adapter.
Versatile Applications of V2L: Diverse Use Cases for Owners
The V2L feature enables power supply to a wide array of electrical devices. Common applications include outdoor activities where owners use electric kettles, portable induction cooktops, coffee machines, toaster ovens, and camping lights. Some owners also utilize this feature to power laptops, Starlink satellite internet routers, drone batteries, photography equipment, and mobile professional production gear. In emergencies, it can even serve as a backup power source for appliances like refrigerators.
