Existing Shareholders Inject $50 Million to Accelerate French Plant Construction
Prologium Technology has announced that its existing shareholders have completed a $50 million capital increase, with funds earmarked for accelerating the construction of its Dunkirk, France, plant and the mass production of lithium ceramic batteries (LCB). This investment is a critical component of Prologium’s plan to list on Nasdaq in 2026 through a SPAC merger, with the stock ticker expected to be PRLG. Prologium stated that the funds will be integrated into its overall financing plan, primarily to expand production capacity and advance the construction timeline of its European plant.
The Dunkirk plant is projected to achieve an initial annual production capacity of 4 GWh, more than ten times that of Prologium’s existing Taoyuan, Taiwan, facility. Prologium noted that the expanded capacity will help reduce the production costs of lithium ceramic batteries, addressing a key barrier to commercialization. The company emphasized that this capital injection will not only support its listing efforts but also accelerate the deployment of its products in high-end markets such as data centers, aerospace, and robotics.
Advantages of Lithium Ceramic Battery Technology and Market Challenges
Prologium’s lithium ceramic batteries utilize superfluidized technology, distinguishing them from conventional solid-state batteries. According to Prologium, these batteries offer several advantages, including higher energy density than existing lithium-ion batteries, near-zero risk of thermal runaway, and an exceptionally long lifespan. These characteristics make them highly promising for industries with stringent safety and performance requirements.
However, the primary challenge facing lithium ceramic batteries is their production cost, which remains significantly higher than that of traditional lithium-ion batteries. Prologium acknowledged that limited production scale has kept costs elevated. The expansion plan for the Dunkirk plant aims to leverage economies of scale to reduce costs and enhance market competitiveness. The company anticipates that as production capacity increases, the cost of lithium ceramic batteries will gradually decline, paving the way for large-scale commercialization in the coming years.
