German utility MVV has announced a partnership with retailer Müller and technology company ADS-TEC Energy to install 39 DC ultra-fast charging stations, comprising 78 charging points, across 27 Müller stores throughout Germany. The expansion project is scheduled for completion by July 2026 and marks MVV’s effort to scale its charging network model—previously established in Mannheim and the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region—nationwide, further strengthening Germany’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
Since 2017, MVV has been developing a public EV charging network in Mannheim and the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, having installed 250 charging stations with 480 charging points across 170 locations to date. This collaboration with Müller not only meets the regulatory requirements of Germany’s Building Electromobility Infrastructure Act (GEIG) but also integrates charging services into shopping centers, allowing consumers to seamlessly incorporate charging into their daily routines. Vinzent Grimmel, Head of Smart Cities at MVV, stated, "Electric mobility needs to be simple, fast, and convenient. That’s why we are deploying charging infrastructure at retail destinations where people already spend their time, making charging a natural part of everyday life."
High-Performance Charging Technology and Innovative Applications
The charging stations deployed in this project utilize ADS-TEC Energy’s ChargePost systems, which deliver power capacities ranging from 250 to 300 kilowatts (kW), enabling two vehicles to charge simultaneously at up to 150 kW each. The systems feature integrated battery storage of up to 201 kilowatt-hours (kWh), ensuring ultra-fast charging can be maintained even in areas with limited grid capacity. Michael Rudloff, Chief Operating Officer of ADS-TEC Energy, noted, "Our battery-buffered charging technology enables ultra-fast charging in locations where grid capacity is constrained, effectively addressing the challenges of deploying charging infrastructure."
