Likair Expands with $320 Million Investment, Secures 20-Year Tesla Supply Contract as Tainan Rolls Out Full Administrative Support

Likair's board approves a $320 million investment to expand production capacity in response to a 20-year lithium iron phosphate precursor material supply contract with Tesla. The Tainan city government is actively competing for the new facility and providing cross-departmental administrative efficiency support, significantly increasing the likelihood of Tainan being selected as the site. The new plant is expected to begin operations in October 2026.

Board Approves Major Investment to Fulfill 20-Year Tesla Contract

Likair's board of directors recently approved a major investment resolution, allocating $320 million to lease facilities and purchase equipment to meet the demands of a long-term supply contract with Tesla. Under the agreement, Likair will supply Tesla with at least 100,000 metric tons of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) precursor material annually for the next 20 years, with the contract set to expire in 2046. This deal not only provides Likair with a stable order pipeline but also further solidifies its strategic position in the global battery materials supply chain.

Likair is Taiwan's only manufacturer capable of mass-producing LFP battery materials outside of China, with two decades of experience in the battery materials sector. The company's products are primarily used in high-growth areas such as electric vehicles, energy storage systems (ESS), and AI data centers. LFP batteries, known for their high safety and low cost, have become one of the mainstream choices in the global energy storage market.

Tainan Government Actively Competes for New Plant, Increasing Selection Odds

To meet Tesla's order demands, Likair plans to expand its production capacity by establishing a new plant in either Tainan or Taichung, with operations expected to commence in October 2026 and revenue contributions anticipated as early as July 2027. The Tainan city government has initiated cross-departmental administrative efficiency support mechanisms to attract this investment, actively assisting Likair with site selection and subsequent construction, making Tainan the most likely location for the new facility.

Likair's existing production lines are currently located in Taoyuan, and the company plans to gradually relocate them to the new plant in Tainan. While this move may temporarily impact revenue, it will help consolidate resources and enhance overall production efficiency. Additionally, Likair's board recently approved a $192 million cash capital increase for its subsidiary, Taiwan Likair Energy, with a share issuance price of $0.32 per share. The record date for share subscription is set for August 16, 2026.

Global Supply Chain Restructuring Boosts Taiwan's Battery Material Competitiveness

Likair's expansion plan reflects the ongoing restructuring of the global battery materials supply chain. As demand for electric vehicles and energy storage systems continues to grow, LFP batteries have become a critical option in the international market due to their stability and cost-effectiveness. Tesla's 20-year contract with Likair not only secures the company's future operations but also highlights Taiwan's global competitiveness in key battery materials.

Once the new plant is operational, Likair will become a vital supply chain partner for Tesla in the U.S. market, further strengthening its influence in the electric vehicle and energy storage industries. This expansion is expected to drive long-term revenue growth for Likair and solidify its leading position in the global battery materials market.
