Kia has officially introduced the Syros EV, its most affordable electric vehicle in India, combining a certified 526 km (326-mile) driving range with rapid charging and advanced in-cabin technology. The model, unveiled on July 15, 2026, is now open for pre-orders with a refundable deposit of ₹25,000 (approximately $260), ahead of its market launch later this month.

Segment-Leading Range and Charging Performance

The Syros EV will be available in two battery configurations: a 42 kWh pack delivering a certified range of 443 km (275 miles) and a 51.4 kWh pack extending range to 526 km (326 miles), both tested under India’s ARAI MIDC standard. Kia states the larger battery variant can recharge from 10% to 80% in 39 minutes, positioning it as a leader in charging speed for its segment.

The 51.4 kWh model is powered by a 168 hp (126 kW) electric motor, while the 42 kWh version produces 132 hp (99 kW). Both variants share the K1 platform with the internal combustion-engine Syros, maintaining identical dimensions: 3,995 mm in length, 1,805 mm in width, and 1,670 mm in height, with a 2,550 mm wheelbase.

Premium Features at an Entry-Level Price Point

The Syros EV’s cabin features a 30-inch panoramic display integrating dual 12.3-inch screens for instrumentation and infotainment, alongside a 5-inch climate control panel. Standard equipment includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Harman Kardon premium audio system, wireless phone charging, and ambient lighting. Kia Connect, the brand’s connected-services suite, offers over 95 features, such as remote battery preconditioning, scheduled charging, and a digital key for smartphone-based vehicle access.

While Kia has not confirmed final pricing, industry analysts project a starting price of approximately ₹18.49 lakh ($19,200), which would undercut the Hyundai Creta Electric and establish the Syros EV as the most affordable electric model in Kia’s Indian lineup. The ₹25,000 reservation fee is fully refundable, with no purchase obligation.

India-Exclusive Model with No Global Export Plans

The Syros EV is manufactured in India and will not be sold in other markets, including the United States and Europe. Kia’s global markets will instead receive the EV2, a mechanically similar but slightly larger electric SUV priced from £24,245 ($32,500) in the UK. In the U.S., Kia’s entry-level electric offering will be the 2027 EV3, expected to launch with a starting price below $35,000 and an estimated range of up to 320 miles.

The Syros EV’s introduction follows the discontinuation of the Niro EV in Kia’s global portfolio, with the EV3 positioned as its indirect successor. While the Syros shares its platform and battery options with the Hyundai Creta Electric, its compact dimensions and aerodynamic optimizations contribute to its extended range, according to Kia’s technical documentation.

The model’s combination of affordability, range, and fast charging could redefine expectations for budget-friendly electric vehicles in India. However, its regional exclusivity means global markets will not have access to the Syros EV, limiting its broader impact on electric vehicle adoption.
