Japanese automaker Honda has decided to outsource part of its vehicle platform development to Tata Technologies, a subsidiary of India’s Tata Group, with the work expected to be completed by August 2026. This marks Honda’s first collaboration with an Indian company in vehicle platform development, aimed at reducing development costs. A Tata Technologies executive confirmed the partnership with Honda in an interview on August 6, 2026, emphasizing that global automakers are increasingly leveraging strategic partnerships to improve development speed and cost competitiveness. Tata Technologies, an engineering design-focused subsidiary of the Tata Group, specializes in automotive development. This collaboration signifies Honda’s first outsourcing of vehicle platform development to an Indian firm.
Scope of Platform Development and Impact
The outsourced vehicle platform development will support hybrid vehicles and some electric vehicle models, primarily targeting markets in Asia, excluding North America. Neither Honda nor Tata Technologies has disclosed specific models, the proportion of development work outsourced, or the expected timeline for production. This partnership is seen as a key strategy for Honda to lower development costs.
