500 Fast Chargers to Be Installed at Shopping Centers in Six States

U.S. electric vehicle charging operator EVgo has announced a partnership with commercial real estate developer Brixmor Property Group to install at least 500 new 350 kilowatt (kW) fast chargers across shopping centers in six states. The expansion is scheduled to begin later this year, with the first new site located at Barn Plaza in suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The 500 new chargers will be distributed across Brixmor shopping centers in Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Each new site will feature up to 12 EVgo chargers, each equipped with dual ports capable of charging two electric vehicles simultaneously. EVgo emphasized that these 350 kW fast chargers will significantly reduce charging times, meeting the needs of both daily commuters and long-distance travelers.

Brixmor Property Group stated that its shopping centers attract over 900 million visits annually, and this collaboration will bring charging infrastructure closer to consumers’ daily lives. Scott Levitan, EVgo’s Executive Vice President of Growth, noted that shopping centers are ideal locations for integrating charging services, allowing drivers to charge their vehicles while shopping, dining, or relaxing.

Partnership Reaches New Scale, Covering Over 25% of Properties

EVgo and Brixmor’s collaboration began in 2016 with the installation of their first charger at a Brixmor property. As of August 2026, EVgo operates over 5,000 individual DC fast-charging ports across 1,178 locations in the United States. According to the Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center, EVgo currently has 5,158 DC fast-charging ports at 1,178 sites nationwide, making it one of the leading charging network operators in the country.

Upon completion of the expansion, more than 90 Brixmor shopping centers will feature EVgo fast chargers, covering over 25% of the company’s property portfolio. Levitan stated that the expansion will enhance charging accessibility and meet the growing demand for public charging. He added that as electric vehicle adoption increases, drivers without home charging options are becoming more reliant on public charging infrastructure, and shopping center charging stations can effectively address this gap.

The new sites are expected to begin operations later this year, with Barn Plaza serving as a key milestone in EVgo’s shopping center charging deployment. The expansion not only strengthens the partnership between EVgo and Brixmor but also reflects the accelerating pace of electric vehicle charging infrastructure development. In recent years, EVgo has also collaborated with companies such as General Motors and Pilot Company to further expand its charging network coverage in response to the rapid growth of the electric vehicle market.
