Qin Max Officially Unveiled, Set for August Launch
BYD released the latest official images of the Qin Max on July 31, with the model scheduled for an official launch in August. Lu Tian, general manager of BYD’s Dynasty series, announced last Friday that the Qin Max has begun arriving at dealerships for display and will serve as the flagship model of the Qin series. Lu stated that the Qin Max is a "completely new B-segment fast-charging sedan" designed by BYD for young consumers, positioned above the existing Qin L model.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has already approved the Qin Max for sale as a new energy vehicle (NEV) this year. According to certification data released by MIIT, the Qin Max measures 4,866 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,790 mm. Compared to the Tesla Model 3, the Qin Max is 146 mm longer but has a wheelbase that is 85 mm shorter. The new model will be available in both pure-electric (EV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions to meet diverse consumer needs.
Powertrain and Range Performance
The Qin Max EV will be equipped with two electric motor power outputs: 160 horsepower (120 kW) and 321 horsepower (240 kW). For the battery, the model will feature BYD’s second-generation Blade Batteries, available in two capacities: 52.868 kWh and 64.315 kWh. Under China’s Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) standard, the 52.868 kWh version offers a range of 530 km, while the 64.315 kWh version delivers up to 630 km.
BYD highlights that the Qin Max, equipped with second-generation Blade Batteries and Flash Charging technology, can achieve a 70% charge in five minutes and a 97% charge in nine minutes under ideal conditions. This technology is regarded as a major breakthrough in electric vehicle charging efficiency, significantly enhancing user convenience. Last year, BYD’s Qin L EV sold over 10,000 units in its first week, demonstrating strong market demand for the Qin series. As the flagship model of the series, the Qin Max is expected to further strengthen BYD’s competitiveness in the B-segment electric sedan market.
Design and Intelligent Features
The Qin Max’s exterior design continues the family styling of the Qin series, featuring a closed front grille, slender LED headlights, and a full-width LED taillight assembly. Inside, the vehicle is equipped with a large center infotainment screen, a separate instrument cluster, a wireless charging pad, and a two-spoke steering wheel. According to BYD’s technology roadmap, the Qin Max is expected to come with the God’s Eye B intelligent driving assistance system, which includes advanced driver-assistance features already implemented in other BYD models.
