Entering the Philippine Market with a Direct Subsidiary Model
Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer XPENG has officially announced its entry into the Philippine market in the third quarter of 2026, becoming the first Chinese EV brand to establish a direct subsidiary in the country. XPENG Philippines confirmed that operations will commence between July and September 2026, with two smart electric vehicle models set for launch. The globalized L03 (known as Mona in the Chinese market) will be the primary initial offering. This move marks a significant milestone in XPENG’s global strategy and reflects the favorable policies in the Philippine electric vehicle market.
The Philippines’ Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA, Republic Act No. 11697) permits 100% foreign equity in EV manufacturing or distribution companies. This legislation provides the legal foundation for XPENG’s direct subsidiary model in the Philippines, allowing the company to fully control its brand image, sales strategy, and after-sales service. XPENG currently operates in 65 countries and regions worldwide, with 380 overseas stores and regional operational centers in markets such as Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Thailand, and Mexico. However, the Philippines presents a unique case, as XPENG will enter the market through a wholly owned subsidiary rather than partnering with local distributors.
XPENG Philippines will directly oversee local sales, after-sales service, and charging infrastructure development. While the company has not yet disclosed the specific models for the Philippine market, official teasers strongly suggest that the L03 and the premium MPV model X9 will be the first to launch. The L03 debuted globally in Munich, Germany, in July 2026, positioned by XPENG as its first “global vehicle,” with plans for simultaneous launches in 65 countries and regions. In Europe, the model is marketed as the XPENG L03, emphasizing its design considerations for global road conditions, regulatory requirements, and consumer needs from the outset.
L03 Designed for International Markets
The L03 measures 4,650 mm in length and 1,920 mm in width, positioning it between the XPENG G6 and the Tesla Model Y. It is slightly longer than the Toyota RAV4 but shorter than the Model Y. The model’s global debut in Munich in July 2026 highlighted its international design philosophy. Larry Evans, a journalist for CleanTechnica who evaluated the L03 in Munich, noted that the vehicle’s design prioritizes not only advanced smart driving technology but also overall execution, including interior space planning, visibility, material selection, and attention to detail. Evans concluded that these features make the L03 better suited for international markets rather than being merely an export adaptation of a China-market model.
