Australian Product Line to Expand to Five Models Within Six Months as Dealership Network Upgrades

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng held a brand day event in Melbourne on July 20, announcing plans to expand its Australian product lineup from the current single model to five within the next six months. The G6 battery electric SUV, currently the only model sold in Australia, will be joined by the X9 luxury seven-seat people mover, the L03 medium SUV, and two additional new models yet to be unveiled. These are scheduled for release in November 2026 and early 2027, respectively.

Xpeng also revealed plans to expand its dealership network in Australia and New Zealand from 24 outlets to approximately 50, aiming to ensure most Australian consumers are within a 40-minute drive of a showroom. To enhance after-sales service, Xpeng will establish three technical support centers in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, alongside a 24/7 customer service hotline and a large parts warehouse in Melbourne. Additionally, Xpeng has joined Australia’s Motor Vehicle Service and Repair Information Sharing Scheme (MVIS), allowing authorized repair shops access to maintenance data and enabling owners to choose non-dealership service providers for maintenance and repairs.

The X9 luxury seven-seat people mover made its official debut at the brand day event, priced at AUD 89,900 (before on-road costs), becoming Xpeng’s second model available in Australia. Xpeng emphasized that all future new models will be launched simultaneously in Australia and China, ensuring synchronized technological and product updates.

Advanced Technology Deployment: AI Robots to Enter Showrooms by 2027

Xpeng showcased several advanced technologies at the brand day event, including a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) flying car and its dedicated vehicle, the Land Aircraft Carrier. The company stated it will accelerate the commercialization of autonomous driving, robotaxis, and flying car technologies but did not provide a specific timeline.

The most notable announcement was the humanoid robot 'Iron,' which Xpeng claims possesses autonomous reasoning and decision-making capabilities, independent of pre-programmed routines, with walking and hand movements closely resembling those of humans. Xpeng plans to deploy 'Iron' as an AI sales assistant in Chinese showrooms in the first quarter of 2027, with expansion to select overseas stores later that year. This initiative is seen as a significant milestone in Xpeng’s commercialization of AI technology.

Founded in 2014, Xpeng ranked seventh in global battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales by the end of 2025, with cumulative deliveries exceeding one million units. At the brand day event, the company reiterated its commitment to deepening AI and robotics research while simultaneously expanding its global market presence. Industry analysts noted that Xpeng’s expansion strategy combines a traditional research and development system with innovative technology deployment, presenting a development path distinct from Tesla’s.

Xpeng’s Australia region head stated that the company will continue investing resources to strengthen its local service network, ensuring consumers receive a comprehensive car-buying and after-sales experience. With the expansion of its product lineup and technological upgrades, Xpeng’s competitiveness in the Australian market is expected to further improve.
