Waymo Robotaxi Service Now Open to All Dallas Residents
Waymo, the U.S. autonomous driving technology company, announced on August 4 that its robotaxi service is now fully available to all residents in Dallas through the Waymo app. Prior to this launch, Waymo had conducted a six-month testing phase in Dallas, serving nearly 150,000 passengers from an interest list, which laid the groundwork for the official rollout.
Waymo stated that Dallas residents have already integrated the robotaxi service into their daily lives, using it for errands, commuting, and nighttime outings. With the service now fully open, Waymo aims to further meet the transportation needs of both residents and visitors, becoming a key component of Dallas’s transportation network.
Service Expansion Includes Airports and Highways
Waymo continues to expand its service area in Dallas, having initiated fully autonomous driving tests at the terminals of Dallas Love Field Airport. The company plans to offer airport shuttle services in the future, facilitating travel between the city and the airport. Additionally, Waymo intends to begin fully autonomous driving tests on Dallas highways in the near future. Once testing is complete, the public will be able to book highway routes, further enhancing the convenience of the service.
Waymo emphasized that testing at airports and on highways represents a critical phase in the maturity of its service. The company plans to gradually open more routes to cover a broader range of travel needs. Partnership with Epilepsy Foundation Texas to Support Independent Mobility
Chris Justl, CEO of the Epilepsy Foundation Texas, stated that Waymo’s autonomous vehicles provide a new, safe, and independent travel option for individuals with epilepsy and others who are unable to drive due to medical conditions. The foundation will collaborate with Waymo to promote the adoption of autonomous driving services in Texas, helping those with mobility challenges reduce their dependence on others and enhance their independence.
Justl noted that autonomous driving technology holds significant importance for individuals with chronic conditions who are unable to obtain driver’s licenses, effectively addressing long-standing transportation challenges. Waymo currently operates in multiple cities across Texas and plans to continue partnering with healthcare organizations to expand its service coverage, benefiting more individuals in need.
