Electric Taxi Service Officially Launches

Green SM, the electric mobility service brand under Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup, announced on August 11 that it has officially launched an electric taxi service in Copenhagen, Denmark, marking the company’s first foray into the European market. The service utilizes VinFast’s VF 6 and VF 8 electric vehicle models, though the fleet size and expansion timeline have not yet been disclosed.

Unlike most ride-hailing platforms, Green SM operates under a distinct model, directly owning and managing its vehicles while also handling driver recruitment and training. All drivers are required to complete comprehensive training covering road safety, customer service, and electric vehicle operation before they begin service to ensure consistent quality. Passengers can book rides through the Green SM app, which displays fares before trip confirmation and automatically issues electronic receipts.

Copenhagen Chosen as European Launch Market

Green SM selected Copenhagen as its first European market. Richard Nabil Chahine, CEO of Green SM Europe, stated that Copenhagen is a global leader in sustainable urban mobility. The company aims to respect and integrate with local standards while leveraging its experience from serving millions of journeys across Asia. Chahine emphasized, “Cities shape the future of mobility long before companies do. Copenhagen is one of those cities. We come with deep respect for the standards already established here, drawing on what we have learned from serving millions of journeys across Asia.”

As of now, Green SM has deployed approximately 20,000 electric cars and 60,000 electric motorbikes across six markets, including Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, and Kazakhstan, offering electric vehicle rentals and ride-hailing services. This expansion into Europe not only demonstrates Vingroup’s international ambitions in electric mobility but also introduces a new option to Copenhagen’s sustainable transportation ecosystem.

Service Features and Future Outlook

Unlike traditional ride-hailing platforms that rely on individual drivers, Green SM employs a vertically integrated operational model, directly overseeing vehicle management and driver training. This approach enhances service quality and safety but also entails higher operational costs and management responsibilities for the company. Details regarding the charging infrastructure for the Copenhagen fleet, including potential partnerships with local governments or energy providers, have not been disclosed.

In terms of pricing, the Green SM app provides fare estimates before trip confirmation, though it remains unclear whether these fares differ from those of existing taxi or ride-hailing services in Copenhagen. Additionally, the company has not revealed plans to expand the service to other European cities or to further scale the fleet in Copenhagen. Nevertheless, the launch is regarded as a significant milestone for Southeast Asian electric mobility providers entering the European market.
