Trade-In Incentive Launches with Up to $2,000 Discount
On August 4, Tesla announced that from now until December 31, 2026, Australian customers trading in a used vehicle for a new or demo Model 3 or Model Y will receive a $2,000 discount. The discount will be directly deducted from the purchase price and is available to all eligible owners, provided delivery is completed within the promotional period.
Tesla announced the incentive on its official social media platform, describing it as a '$2,000 trade-in bonus for new Model 3 & Y.' Customers can apply for a trade-in valuation through Tesla’s official website, with the discount automatically applied to the final purchase price. The offer covers all three Model 3 variants—Premium RWD, Premium RWD Long Range, and AWD Performance—as well as all four Model Y variants: Premium RWD, Premium AWD Long Range, AWD 6-seater L, and AWD Performance.
The current price range for the Model 3 in Australia is from $54,900 to $80,900 before on-road costs, while the Model Y ranges from $58,900 to $89,400. Tesla has not specified the criteria for 'eligible owners' or defined the scope of 'demo vehicles,' stating only that the offer applies to new and demo models.
Model Y Sets Sales Record While Model 3 Faces Market Challenges
Tesla’s Model Y has recently performed strongly in the Australian market, with June sales exceeding 8,000 units, setting a new monthly record for the model in the region. Though July sales dipped to over 4,400 units, they still represented a significant year-over-year increase, indicating sustained market demand. In contrast, the Model 3 has seen declining sales this year, with analysis suggesting a shift in consumer preference toward SUV models.
