Integrated System Delivers Significant Energy Cost Reduction

Sunrise Toyota dealerships in Oakdale and Medford, New York, recently announced their energy management results. By integrating solar power generation, EVO Power battery storage, Kempower DC fast chargers, and Ranial Systems AI-powered energy management software, the dealerships reduced average energy costs by 55% over three months. Designed and installed by Sprocket Power, the system not only offset the increased electricity demand from the newly added fast chargers but also effectively lowered operational costs through intelligent energy control.

Jimmy Berg, dealer principal at Sunrise Toyota, stated that commercial electricity pricing structures are complex. Beyond basic energy consumption, peak demand charges often become a significant cost burden. As Toyota required dealerships to install DC fast chargers, the high power demand from these chargers risked causing demand charges to surge. To address this, Sprocket Power’s system uses AI software to coordinate equipment in real time, including storing solar energy, discharging battery power, and controlling chargers. The system also participates in grid support programs, further reducing energy costs and generating additional revenue.

System Performance and Financial Benefits Begin to Materialize

According to data provided by EVO Power, the system achieved 99% battery uptime during its first three months of operation, with peak demand reduced by up to 101 kilowatts. Sprocket Power’s case study projects that the two dealerships will ultimately reduce net energy costs by 90% and expects the investment to be recouped within five years. Sprocket Power noted that revenue and bill credits from grid support programs account for about half of the system’s ongoing financial benefits.

Yanu Choi, CEO of EVO Power USA, emphasized that battery energy storage systems optimize renewable energy generation and consumption while participating in grid programs to reduce grid stress, lower energy costs, and create new revenue opportunities. EVO Power reported completing over 125 battery storage deployments worldwide, with many systems operating reliably for more than five years, demonstrating the maturity and dependability of the technology.

Commercial Charging Infrastructure and Energy Storage Integration Emerges as a Trend

The Sunrise Toyota case illustrates that installing solar panels alone cannot fully address the peak demand challenges posed by fast chargers during nighttime or overcast conditions. By combining battery storage with AI-driven energy management, the system effectively smooths out sudden load spikes, preventing individual charging events from driving up overall energy costs. Jimmy Berg stated that this investment not only controls energy expenses but also provides long-term financial stability for the dealership’s operations.

As demand for electric vehicle charging continues to grow, the integration of commercial charging infrastructure with energy storage systems has become a key solution for reducing operational costs and enhancing energy resilience. EVO Power and Ranial Systems recently announced a partnership to expand this model to more commercial and industrial customers across the United States. EVO Power will provide integrated battery storage hardware, while Ranial will supply monitoring and dispatch software, jointly advancing the adoption of smart energy management.
