Starlink Integrated into Cybertruck, Chip Project Transferred to SpaceX
Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed on July 22 during the company’s earnings call that the business overlap between Tesla and SpaceX is deepening. He stated that SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet has been successfully integrated into Tesla’s Cybertruck model and will eventually expand to all Tesla vehicles to enhance connected car capabilities. Musk also announced that the AI chip manufacturing project TeraFab, originally jointly developed by Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI, has been officially transferred to SpaceX. He noted that this move will accelerate the mass production of AI chips but did not disclose specific operational plans or financial implications. The transfer of the TeraFab project underscores SpaceX’s growing role in the AI hardware sector.
SpaceXAI to Develop AI Management System for Optimus Robots
Musk further revealed that SpaceXAI, formerly known as xAI, is developing an artificial intelligence model that will serve as a “management system” for Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus. This AI model will coordinate decision-making and actions for Optimus, though Musk did not specify the development timeline, technical specifications, or practical application scenarios. The announcement indicates that Tesla’s robotics strategy is now deeply integrated with SpaceX’s AI research and development.
Regarding speculation about a potential merger, Musk deliberately avoided addressing the topic directly during the call, stating that “earnings calls are not the appropriate forum to discuss major matters such as company mergers, which must be handled through proper procedures.” Tesla’s Legal Counsel, Brandon Ehrhart, emphasized that the company will continue to benefit from its collaboration with SpaceX, noting that the two have completed multiple mutually beneficial transactions and investments, though he did not provide specific examples or financial details.
