Enhanced Body Space and Design

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the 2028 all-electric GLA SUV, built on the new Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, featuring significant improvements in body dimensions and interior space. The wheelbase has been extended by 2.4 inches (61 mm) to 109.8 inches (2,789 mm), increasing front legroom by 0.3 inches (8 mm) and rear legroom by up to 1.5 inches (38 mm), while headroom has grown by 0.9 inches (23 mm), offering a more spacious cabin experience.

In terms of exterior design, the new model introduces an iconic illuminated grille and offers an optional Intelligent Light System, integrating the Mercedes-Benz star emblem into the daytime running lights. Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz, stated that this new GLA is "the most expressive GLA ever," highlighting the brand’s reimagined design language for the electric era.

Intelligent Cabin and AI Navigation Integration

The 2028 GLA electric vehicle features the all-new MBUX Superscreen, a triple-display system spanning the dashboard, comprising a 10.25-inch driver display, a 14-inch central infotainment screen, and a 14-inch passenger display. This system marks the first integration of Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent, enabling in-car conversational navigation and services via Google Maps. Drivers can use the MBUX Virtual Assistant for voice-activated queries, such as locating charging stations or checking charging speeds in real time.

Additionally, the vehicle includes advanced smart features like adaptive ambient lighting and personalized settings, enhancing interaction for both drivers and passengers. Mercedes-Benz emphasizes that these innovations aim to deliver a more intuitive and seamless digital driving experience.

Class-Leading Power and Range Performance

The 2028 GLA electric vehicle will be available in two powertrain variants: the 250+ model, equipped with a single electric motor producing 268 horsepower, and the 350 4MATIC, featuring dual electric motors and all-wheel drive with 349 horsepower. Both models are powered by an 85 kWh battery, achieving a WLTP range of up to 408 miles (657 km), positioning the GLA as one of the longest-range electric compact SUVs in its class.

Charging efficiency is significantly improved with the adoption of an 800-volt high-voltage architecture, supporting DC fast charging at up to 320 kW. This technology allows the vehicle to recharge 167 miles (270 km) of range in just 10 minutes, greatly reducing charging time and enhancing convenience for long-distance travel. Mercedes-Benz has announced that global deliveries will commence in the second half of 2027, though final pricing and full specifications have yet to be disclosed.

Regarding the highly anticipated AMG high-performance variant, Mercedes-Benz has not released official details. However, industry expectations suggest the AMG version may adopt a fully electric architecture, potentially featuring more efficient axial flux electric motors to boost power output and handling performance. There are also indications that Mercedes-Benz may phase out its current 4-cylinder M139 high-performance engine in favor of a fully electric lineup.
