Australia Testing Validates L6 Adaptability and Durability
Chinese electric vehicle brand Lepas announced on July 20, 2026, that its first model, the L6 electric SUV, has completed extensive local testing and adaptation in Australia, marking the final preparation phase before mass production. Lepas, an export-focused brand under Chinese automaker Chery, aims to expand into 45 global markets by 2027, with an annual sales target of 500,000 vehicles. The completion of testing in Australia underscores Lepas’ commitment to the market and lays the groundwork for its global expansion strategy.
Lucas Harris, COO of Lepas Australia, noted that Australia presents some of the world’s most challenging driving conditions, characterized by variable road surfaces, long distances, and extreme temperatures, which demand high standards for vehicle performance, durability, and safety. To ensure the L6 meets the expectations of Australian consumers, Lepas invested significant resources in local validation. Testing covered coarse-chip bitumen roads, rural highways, winding mountain roads, and urban environments. Additionally, the team conducted durability tests under extreme temperature conditions, including cold-weather and high-temperature scenarios, to guarantee stable performance across all climates.
During testing, Lepas focused on localizing its Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) to ensure the vehicle could accurately recognize Australia’s unique road markings, traffic signs, and driving environments. Harris emphasized that Australian consumers have exceptionally high expectations for ride quality, handling, and refinement. As a result, Lepas optimized the ADAS system and made comprehensive adjustments to software integration, powertrain tuning, suspension settings, and cabin noise insulation to enhance the overall driving experience.
