Automotive-Grade Memory Certified for MediaTek Platform

Infineon Technologies and MediaTek have jointly announced that Infineon’s 512Mb automotive-grade Quad SPI NOR Flash memory has completed certification on MediaTek’s Dimensity Auto Cockpit C-X1 platform. This certification marks a significant advancement in smart cockpit memory solutions, offering automakers, Tier-1 suppliers, and developers a validated high-capacity memory option to meet the demands of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) for large-capacity storage and high-performance computing.

Infineon’s 512Mb NOR Flash memory utilizes MirrorBit technology, supports operating temperatures up to 125°C, and has achieved AEC-Q100 automotive-grade certification, ensuring stable operation in extreme environments. The product features functional safety and encrypted boot capabilities, effectively preventing malicious system intrusions while providing critical redundancy to enhance overall security. The memory is primarily used to store firmware and boot code, supporting AI-driven functions on MediaTek’s C-X1 platform, including voice assistants, driver monitoring, vlog generation, environmental sensing, and personalized audio-visual recommendations.

High-Capacity Memory as a Key Enabler for Software-Defined Vehicles

Rainer Hoehler, Senior Vice President of Infineon’s Memory Solutions Division, stated that software-defined vehicles rely on high-performance system-on-chips (SoCs), complex firmware, and large-capacity storage. The proliferation of digital cockpits and over-the-air (OTA) software updates is driving continuous growth in demand for higher-capacity NOR Flash memory. He noted that this certification will streamline the adoption process for automakers and suppliers, providing a more reliable memory foundation for smart cockpits.

Chang Yu-Tai, Vice President and General Manager of MediaTek’s Automotive Business Unit, emphasized that Infineon’s automotive-grade NOR Flash memory delivers outstanding performance, reliability, and functional safety, providing robust support for the Dimensity Auto Cockpit C-X1 platform. He stressed that this collaboration will further strengthen the development foundation of the software-defined vehicle ecosystem, accelerating the deployment of smart cockpit technology in mass-produced vehicles.

Memory Solution Supports OTA and AI Applications

Infineon’s 512Mb NOR Flash memory offers broad compatibility, integrating seamlessly with mainstream automotive SoCs and supporting OTA updates to ensure continuous evolution of vehicle software. The product not only stores critical firmware but also supports AI computing at the SoC level, meeting the real-time data processing demands of smart cockpits. As digital cockpit functionalities become increasingly complex, high-capacity NOR Flash memory has become an indispensable core component for software-defined vehicles.

While specific adoption plans by automakers or suppliers have not yet been disclosed, this certification provides smart cockpit developers with a clear technical option. Industry observers widely believe that as autonomous driving and smart connectivity technologies advance, the demand for high-reliability, high-capacity memory solutions in the automotive memory market will continue to grow. The collaboration between Infineon and MediaTek will lay a more robust foundation for the memory architecture of future automotive systems.
