Discount Program Takes Effect August 20, Offering Up to 20% Savings
Hyundai Motor Company and its luxury brand Genesis have announced that starting August 20, 2026, owners in the U.S. will receive up to a 20% discount when charging at Ionna charging stations. The discount consists of two stackable 10% offers, one of which expires on September 30, 2026, while the other remains available indefinitely. With the discount applied, the cost per kilowatt-hour drops from $0.39 to $0.31 (excluding tax), making it one of the most competitive fast-charging prices currently available in the U.S. market.
Hyundai and Genesis emphasize that owners must initiate charging through the automaker’s official smartphone app or the Plug & Charge feature to qualify for the discount. Payments made directly via credit card at the charging station will not receive the discount. The discount will be automatically applied to eligible charging sessions, with no need for promotional codes or additional setup.
Discount Applies Only to Designated Models, Some Vehicles Not Yet Supported
According to Hyundai, the discount currently applies to the 2022 and newer Ioniq 5, 2025 and newer Ioniq 5 N and Kona Electric, and the 2026 and newer Ioniq 9. Some 2022 to 2024 model-year Ioniq 5 vehicles support charging only through the app and do not yet offer Plug & Charge functionality. Hyundai has stated that additional models will be supported later in 2026 but has not confirmed whether the discontinued Ioniq 6 will be included.
For Genesis, owners of the 2026 and newer GV60 and Electrified GV70 can access the same discount and support both app-based charging and Plug & Charge. Notably, Kia, another brand under the Hyundai Motor Group, does not currently offer a similar charging discount program.
Ionna Charging Network Ranked Best in the U.S., Station Quality Praised
Ionna’s charging network was recently ranked as the top charging service provider in the U.S. by JD Power, recognized for its clean stations and operational reliability. The company’s base charging rate in the U.S. is $0.39 per kilowatt-hour. With the 20% discount from Hyundai and Genesis, owners pay an effective rate of $0.31 per kilowatt-hour, lower than most competitors’ pricing.
Earlier in 2026, BMW and Mini owners also received a 20% discount at Ionna charging stations, an offer set to expire on September 30, 2026. As competition in the electric vehicle market intensifies, automakers are increasingly partnering with charging networks to offer discounts, reducing the cost of ownership for customers. Hyundai and Genesis’s latest discount program further strengthens their competitiveness in the U.S. electric vehicle market.
The Plug & Charge feature must be enabled in the vehicle settings in advance and is supported only on select newer models. While Ionna charging stations are located across the U.S., it remains unclear whether the discount applies to all charging speeds, such as Level 2 or DC fast charging. Owners should verify the terms at each charging station to ensure they receive the discount.
