Stacked Discounts Take Effect, Significantly Lowering Charging Costs
Hyundai Motor and its luxury brand Genesis announced that starting August 20, owners of their electric vehicles in the U.S. can enjoy two stackable discounts at Ionna charging stations, totaling a 20% reduction. Ionna’s base charging rate is $0.39 per kilowatt-hour (excluding tax), which drops to $0.31 after the discount, making it one of the most competitive fast-charging prices in the country. One of the 10% discounts will expire on September 30, 2026, while the other remains available indefinitely.
Hyundai stated that the offer applies to all Ionna charging stations across the U.S., but owners must initiate charging through the automaker’s official app or Plug & Charge functionality to qualify for the discounts. Using on-site credit card readers at the charging stations will not apply the discounts. This measure aims to encourage owners to use the automaker-integrated digital payment solutions, streamlining the charging process.
Eligible Models Specified, Some Vehicles Support App Charging Only
Currently, Hyundai models eligible for the discount include the 2022 and newer Ioniq 5, 2025 and newer Ioniq 5 N, 2026 and newer Ioniq 9, and 2025 and newer Kona Electric. Notably, some 2022 to 2024 Ioniq 5 models only support charging via the app and do not yet feature Plug & Charge functionality. Genesis models supporting the discount are the 2026 and newer GV60 and Electrified GV70.
It is worth mentioning that the Ioniq 6, which has been discontinued in the U.S. market, is not included in the list of eligible models. Hyundai indicated that additional models will gain app charging support later this year but did not specify whether the Ioniq 6 will be among them. Additionally, Kia, another brand under the Hyundai Motor Group and a partner of Ionna, has not yet introduced a similar charging discount program.
