Ford has extended its Power Promise program, offering free Level 2 home chargers with standard installation to buyers of the 2025 and 2026 Mustang Mach-E through July and September 2026, respectively. The program, initially launched in October 2024, was designed to incentivize EV adoption by reducing the upfront cost of home charging infrastructure. However, the F-150 Lightning, previously eligible, is no longer included due to its discontinuation and depleted nationwide inventory.

Program Terms and Eligibility

Under the extended Power Promise program, buyers or lessees of a new 2025 Mustang Mach-E must complete their purchase or lease by July 31, 2026, to qualify for the free home charger. For the 2026 Mustang Mach-E, the deadline is September 30, 2026. The program covers the cost of a Level 2 charger and standard installation, which includes up to 60-amp circuits, 80 feet of wiring, and ties to the home’s electrical meter. However, it does not cover expenses related to digging underground lines or panel upgrades.

Ford has partnered with Qmerit, a third-party provider, to handle the installation process. The company confirmed that the brand and type of charger may vary depending on availability, though the Mustang Mach-E’s 11-kilowatt AC charging input ensures compatibility with any 48-amp home charger. The program is limited to retail customers; fleet or commercial buyers are not eligible.

Alternative Incentives and Vehicle Updates

For buyers who prefer not to install a home charger, Ford offers a $2,000 discount on the purchase or lease of a new Mustang Mach-E. This alternative requires no trade-in and provides flexibility for customers who may not have suitable home charging conditions.

The 2026 Mustang Mach-E introduces several updates, including grab handles on the rear doors—a feature previously limited to the front doors. However, Ford has also made the front trunk an optional extra, charging an additional $495 for the feature, which was previously standard.

Broader Implications for EV Ownership

Ford’s decision to extend the Power Promise program reflects its commitment to addressing a key barrier to EV adoption: home charging accessibility. According to the program’s terms, home charging is positioned as a more affordable and convenient alternative to public charging networks. The company’s narrative, as reported by InsideEVs, emphasizes that home charging eliminates "charging anxiety" by allowing owners to plug in overnight and wake up to a fully charged vehicle. For homes equipped with solar panels, the program further enables free daytime charging, reducing reliance on the grid.

Despite these benefits, the program’s exclusivity to the Mustang Mach-E—following the discontinuation of the F-150 Lightning—highlights Ford’s shifting focus within its EV lineup. The automaker has not provided a detailed explanation for the F-150 Lightning’s discontinuation or the depletion of its inventory, leaving questions about its future electric truck strategy unanswered.

The Power Promise program’s extension comes as other automakers, such as Volvo, explore similar incentives to boost EV adoption. However, Ford’s approach remains distinct in its emphasis on home charging infrastructure, a critical factor for long-term EV ownership satisfaction. As the program continues through 2026, its impact on Mustang Mach-E sales and broader EV adoption trends will be closely monitored.
