Dual Breakthroughs in Range and Fast Charging: Denza N8 Sets New Milestone
Denza has officially unveiled its all-new all-electric SUV, the N8, which achieves a CLTC range of 1,003 km (623 miles) using BYD’s latest Blade Batteries 2.0 technology. This makes it one of the longest-range mass-produced all-electric vehicles currently available on the market. Denza stated that this achievement represents a significant breakthrough in battery energy density and overall vehicle energy efficiency management.
The N8’s fast-charging capabilities are even more impressive. Official data shows that the vehicle can recharge from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, while a full charge from 10% to 97% takes only nine minutes. This rapid charging performance is enabled by Flash Charging technology, dramatically reducing the time required for energy replenishment and poised to transform the long-distance travel experience for electric vehicles. However, Denza has not yet disclosed the specific charging infrastructure requirements for this technology.
Vehicle Dimensions and Powertrain Configurations Revealed
According to data released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the all-electric N8 measures 5,150 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,820 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,075 mm, closely resembling the dimensions of the larger plug-in hybrid Denza N8L. The vehicle is equipped with a 130.15 kWh battery pack, providing the foundation for its extended range.
In terms of powertrain options, the N8 offers two configurations: a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version with a single electric motor, available in outputs of 320 kW (429 hp) or 370 kW (496 hp), and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) version featuring a tri-motor system. The AWD variant includes a 270 kW motor on the front axle and two 310 kW motors on the rear axle, delivering a combined output of 890 kW (1,193 hp). All versions are built on BYD’s e3 platform, ensuring optimal vehicle performance and safety.
Market Strategy Shift: Plug-In Hybrid Version Discontinued
The Denza N8 was initially launched in 2023 as a plug-in hybrid, available in six- and seven-seat configurations. However, due to sluggish market response, the model was discontinued after less than a year on the market. BYD subsequently adjusted its strategy, focusing resources on the development of all-electric models. In June of this year, Denza introduced the N8L, equipped with Flash Charging technology, paving the way for the launch of the all-electric N8.
The all-electric N8 has received MIIT approval for sale, but Denza has not yet announced an official launch date or pricing. Currently, the model is targeted exclusively at the Chinese market, with no confirmation on whether it will expand to overseas markets. Industry analysts suggest that if the N8’s range and fast-charging performance remain stable in real-world use, it could have a profound impact on the electric vehicle industry, particularly in long-distance travel and charging convenience.
