Denza Z9 GT Officially Launches in Europe
On July 23, BYD’s luxury sub-brand Denza simultaneously introduced the Z9 GT all-electric and plug-in hybrid models in Europe and the UK, marking the brand’s official entry into the international high-end market. The Denza Z9 GT all-electric variant is priced at £105,000 (approximately $140,000) in Europe, while the plug-in hybrid version starts at £95,000 (approximately $126,500), positioning it alongside traditional luxury brands such as the Porsche Panamera.
The Denza Z9 GT is priced at 269,800 yuan (approximately $39,300) in the Chinese market, over three times lower than its European price. Stella Li, BYD Executive Vice President, stated that the launch of the Z9 GT represents a breakthrough in Denza’s technology and design, introducing the "Ready in 5, Full in 9, Cold Add 3" flash charging principle to global markets.
5-Minute Flash Charging Technology as the Highlight
The Denza Z9 GT all-electric model is equipped with BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery and Flash Charging technology. According to official data, the vehicle can recharge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes and from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes. Even in extreme low-temperature conditions of -30°C, charging from 20% to 97% takes only 12 minutes. BYD claims this technology will initiate a "Flash Charging Revolution" in Europe and plans to deploy ultra-fast charging stations with up to 1,500 kW power globally.
The Z9 GT all-electric variant features a 122.49 kWh battery pack and three electric motors, delivering a maximum output of 1,140 hp (850 kW) and torque of 1,210 Nm (892 lb-ft). Under the WLTP testing standard, the vehicle offers a range of 599 km (372 miles). In terms of dimensions, the Z9 GT measures 5,195 mm in length, 1,990 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,125 mm, comparable to models like the Porsche Panamera and Taycan.
Pricing Comparable to Porsche, Celebrity Endorsement Enhances Luxury Image
The Denza Z9 GT all-electric model is priced at €115,000 (approximately $134,500) in Germany and France, nearly matching the Porsche Panamera’s starting price of €116,400 (approximately $136,000) in Germany. BYD has partnered with renowned actor Daniel Craig, who portrayed James Bond for 15 years and frequently drove high-end sports cars in the films, to serve as the brand ambassador. BYD stated that this collaboration aims to highlight the Z9 GT’s performance and technological sophistication, further solidifying Denza’s luxury positioning.
The Denza Z9 GT is now available for order in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain, with BYD planning to expand availability to 30 countries by the end of 2026. Additionally, BYD announced last week that its other luxury model, the Denza Z, starts at £142,900 (approximately $192,000) in the UK, with a maximum output of 1,582 hp.
Charging Infrastructure and Real-World Performance Remain to Be Verified
While the Denza Z9 GT’s flash charging technology and performance have attracted significant attention, questions remain about the widespread availability of its charging infrastructure. Although BYD has announced plans to deploy 1,500 kW ultra-fast charging stations, details regarding the rollout of these stations in Europe or their compatibility with existing charging networks have not been disclosed. Furthermore, key metrics such as the vehicle’s real-world energy consumption, safety ratings, and long-term reliability await independent verification by third-party organizations.
Denza previously launched the D9 plug-in hybrid MPV and the Z model in the Chinese market, accumulating valuable experience. The European debut of the Z9 GT is seen as a critical step in BYD’s expansion into the international high-end market. As electric vehicle technology advances rapidly, traditional luxury brands will face direct competition from Chinese automakers.
